It is a good idea to buy a carbon monoxide alarm to alert you to the presence of carbon monoxide, which is a poisonous, invisible gas with no taste or smell. It can be produced by faulty gas appliances and solid-fuel appliances, such as an open fire or log-burning stove.
1. If you’re a private tenant, your landlord must fit a carbon monoxide alarm in any room that contains a solid fuel burning appliance. 2. They must also install a smoke alarm on each floor and may have to provide specialist alarms if you request them – for example, vibrating or flashing alarms if you suffer from hearing loss. 3. You should test your alarms regularly and, if they’re not in working order, arrange to replace the batteries or the alarm itself with your landlord.
